End world hunger by learning vocabulary

What if just by knowing the meaning of a word, you could donate food to starving villages? Well that's the idea of www.freerice.com . It's a non-profit organization that asks you vocab questions and for each one you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice. The sponsors on the bottom of the page provide the money to buy the rice. It's then distributed by the UN World Food Program (WFP) . So please help out, not only are they supporting free education (the vocab) but you're actually making a difference. I even tried it out, which was good for me since I have vocabulary test tomorrow, which to be honest i forgot about up until now, so it helped me. Here's a screenshot of my score. My vocab level was 20 and my rice count was 380.

Tv.links.co.uk shut down and owner arrested

TVLinks used to be the one of a chosen slew of websites I would visit on a daily basis. I went to bed with tv.links every night, laughing at comedies like the office, mighty boosh, scrubs, that 70s show and of course mythbusters. But now my nights have been unfruitful. As the title suggests tv-l has been shut down and the owner arrested. The site hosted links to sites such as google, stage6, youtube, and dailymotion. On the 19th, the Gloucestershire County Council, in association with a group called the FACT, raided the site’s servers and arrested the 26 year old man from Cheltenham who ran the site. He is now in prison because he runs a site where other people submit low resolution tv shows hosted by google and youtube, FACT did not raid Google, they instead chose a site that provides links to shows hosted on their website. But least we forget Google is a huge conglomerate that's filthy rich, they are of course above the law. (I am however thankful for Gmail, don't get me wrong.)I'm not sure about the copyright laws in the UK, but as far as I know(used to anyways) the the justice system is clearly broken. Not only has the owner been arrested, but some of the mods have been as well. One mod who lives in Ireland has been arrested and held for 5 hours in jail, this is what he had to say on the forum:
“Well I may aswell post here now. I was an SMod on tv-l, ive been in a police station for the last 5 hours been questioned about my involvement in the site. Apparently they can charge me for involvement in organized crime!!! WTF!!!! The scary thing is that im not even in the UK, im in Ireland, which is governed by FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) the police operation was massive scale, I was on tv-l just as it went offline, no warning whatsoever. AFAIK Sin (site owner) is still been held. All I know for sure is that the sites gone (for now anyway)… and that we (mods) could, in theory (if it goes this far) be sued £100,000,000, which FACT are saying is what the industry lost as a direct result of the site. Needless to say, im a little concerned atm(at the moment)”
You read right £100,000,000 that's translated to $205.23 million or $14572.91 million Jamaican dollars ( i did the Jamaican dollars for dramatic effect.)
He finally said he doesn't know how this will all end but rest assured they will not go down kicking and screaming. Good luck to them, they have made a little petition to save the poor brute sign up at http://www.petitiononline.com/21212594/petition.html
As of now they haven't pressed any charges.

Feels like a Christmas

Yes, I know, it's October, but it feels like Christmas. My lovely granny made some sorrel for us last night, and we have bun and cheese. If that's not christmas I don't know what it is. In unrelated news watch this funny clip even though it's old.

Election Time Again

Well last night it was announced that opposition leader Bruce Golding (Papa Bruce) won. This is the first win for JLP since 1980 when Michael Manley lost to Eddie Seaga. Well seeing that I'm neither a labourite or a national it doesn't make me happy nor sad. My father is staunch National supporter and my mother is a die-hard labourite, albeit although she has never voted in her life. Well thanks to invention of cell-phones I got up to date progress from my cousin's girlfriends family in Jamaica. Apparently at first it was extremely peaceful (the most peaceful since the country gained independence to be exact with only 7 deaths) almost eerie, you could walk around wearing your green or orange and go on with your normal day. Then the winner was announced and of course yuh start hear some gunshot a buss. Surprisingly it wasn't PNP vs. JLP fighting, but National vs. National. PNP areas are accusing each other of turning on their party and voting Labourite, which if you want to be technical has to be the case since PNP areas outnumber those of JLP, or maybe people decided to actually vote this time around, or maybe it's because us Jamaicans were tired of hearing the country was improving while nothing has really changed. No-one was killed, but a few were injured just people celebrated and crying. Speaking of crying, Portia Simpson (Sista P) was cow-bawling when she heard that she had lost on t.v. and of course is calling for a recount, because it was "too close", it all depends on South St. James now. It reminds of election here when Al Gore rightfully won, but Bush wanted a re-count and miraculously more votes appeared in his ballot. According to her you can't have criminals holding seats, which is very funny since Sista P herself has been accused of various charges while she was Minister of Tourism and Minister of Social Security and Sport. Well if the recount goes well (which has already started since 9:00) Papa Bruce should be the rightful Prime Minister. Well if JLP improves the country, decreases crime rate and poverty, and raises the overall economy, good for them. But as of now I can guarantee there will be many deaths in the following days, politics is a dangerous and corrupt thing, especially in Jamaica, and that is why we call it Poli-tricks not Politics . (corny yes I know)

Zune live at the BBQ

Wow, this concert definitely exceeded all expectations. First off it's a beautiful location, nestled between the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. We arrived at about 3:30 and it didn't start yet just some DJ mixing, so we sat down under a Weeping Willow tree, and I remembered Harry Potter, random yes, i know. So the first performer was Joel Ortiz, he was alright, didn't care for him, because i never heard of him. Then Baby Cham came on, being the nuff Jamaicans that we are we started screaming like little school-girls. Cham was a very good performer, he danced, he sang and broke our hearts when he left. Of course he did a big up to the yardies, and even came closer to our section. And we got some pictures and even a video. After that some guy was playing a mix-tape of some crap. Afterwards we saw Jadakiss, we were all surprised then more people came out, and then we knew it was The Lox, they started out with "All about the Benjamins" and Yolene and I rapped along with such enthusiasm that I felt like a proud parent. They played various songs that I might be too young or naive to know or remember but they also played some that we knew. They played "I Get High" and everyone started singing along I even faintly smelt weed. After that Clipse came out, and guess what Shampoo is out of jail, (I learnt that when everyone shouted welcome back). They played Chinese New Year, Grinding, Mr. Me Too, and Ride Around Shining. The crowd went wild, we took a picture of the crowd behind us and the place was packed! Afterwards Grand Nubian came on, so we decided to go back to the pier and look at the water while he was performing, I didn't see a crowd for him, but then again I wasn't wearing my glasses all the time. Afterwards we got something to eat, and waited in line for about half an hour, the rice was really good, but the meat could've been better. So anyways back to concert. A big surprise was in store for us. We went back to the stage, and we saw some sirens, out initial guess was of course, Beyonce, but it wasn't her. We then saw a guy climb on the scaffolding of the stage to re-arrange some lights, almost falling many times. Then we saw a mic stand that said "LL Cool J". Shock of the century indeed. Everyone within ear shot of us was teasing him, calling him a diva, asking questions like "Who the hell does this nigga think he is? Why does he need fifty towels, props and roses?" We asked the same questions too. But he was a good performer throwing in some old school jams, and inviting the ladies on stage. He even had a very sparkly t-shirt that read "I heart Hip Hop", pictures we will show because that shirt was extremely homolicous. All in all the concert was great, it was free and it actually felt like summer. Pictures should be up soon enough, if Chad decides to send them.

What the fx up this weekend?

As the title that I stole from those Truth commercial says, what's going on this weekend.

Saturday August 4th, 2k7
Live at the BBQ presented by Zune [3pm-10 pm]
It's just a HUGE bbq with some familiar artists such as Brand Nubian, Cham, Large Professor, Clipse, MIMS, Joell Ortiz and many more. If hip-hop's not your thing then go for the food, that's definitely the main reason for going to this thing. It's the last of their summer series, so remember kids you have to go back to your institution of higher learning pretty soon.First off, you need a ticket if you're interested in guaranteed entry, because according to them it will sell out quicker than the one in Chicago which I guess sold pretty quick? As for location as of now it's still to be determined......... So either do a google search every five minutes or maybe you'll see it here. Oh yeah there will be tons of Zune merch there, but hold out on buying a Zune just for now because i hear they're making another one, let's hope they're not like Apple who makes a new one every 5 months but it ends up being the same thing.
EDIT: If you look on your ticket you'll see the location, DUMBO,Brooklyn. And tickets are sold out, so if you wanted to go and didn't get a ticket sucks for you. Also you need an I.D to enter and if you have anyone under the age of 15 with you, they need a ticket plus a legal guardian or parent.

RSVP just in case at going.com, TVOTR got pretty crowded and they actually closed the RSVP line, will this happen to these random people, I doubt it.
EDIT: Apparently the RSVP line is closed once again, my mistake Blonde Redhead is actually quite well known, whoops. I didn't want to see them so oh well.

Big up to Chad, Happy Birthday. Yolene good luck on the interview.
P.S. - Yolene I know you're going to read this and say to yourself, she didn't big me up for my birthday, but i didn't because we didn't post on your birthday. So do! nu badda cuss mi off.

Siren Festival

So as my sister and I departed from our house to go to the train station, as luck would have it the MTA police ( yes they have police) would block the tracks making up excuses saying that "the barriers are broken" while our train stopped at the station and quietly moved along. It left me upset, heart broken and a bit gassy. We reached by 3:11 then took another hour to get to Coney island. By then as luck would have it once again we missed the Noisettes, some bands played, none that I cared to learn their music or research them further. While waiting to see if M.IA. would grace us with her presence I wondered, did she get her visa, did she even make across the Atlantic Ocean, or is she in a barrel being smuggled into the country. We were at the main stage, and made somewhat of an attempt to find the other stage but that failed and we just retreated. Some random DJ started to hype the crowd playing some music and we all cheered, mostly because we couldn't see the stage. So there we were fitted tightly between those 7 foot giants known as hipsters, while they stood there talking, smoking cigarettes and weed. There were even a few crack heads behind us. Indeed we had the spots of champions. M.IA. is a decent performer, i just wanted to hear boyz, bucky done gone, and galang and I would be irie. I heard those songs, we did the robot, butterfly, and some-other butchered versions of stuff seeing that space was oh so limited. But I left feeling a bit disappointed, I stood there saying to myself, I could've done this with them just playing her songs, but what the heck it was free. And when things are free, you feel happy or maybe its just my cheapness, oh well. We ventured to the boardwalk and Chad and I went to the beach, I rolled up my ever so tight jeans and stood there in the water, it was cold, I couldn't see my feet, and I think I stepped on glass, but when I emerged from the water, my toes were glistening. Chad took some pictures, who knows maybe he'll post them.

In the midst of the mosh pit, i jumped, i flailed my arms and shouted like nobodys business. He almost made me forget there was even a heat wave that day, i kid you not, this fucker was that good, easily one of the better concerts i've been to this year and also, dan deacon doesn'nt seem like a narcissistic asshole...so that's always a plus.I dont have a video of that performance but here's something that will hold you over.

-YULAN [because I'm a nuffisha]

So I was thinking......

While reading a back issue of Paper magazine I noticed an article on Alejandro Jordorowsky, famed filmmaker known for his surreal cult classics like El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Being a youngin' I had no clue who the hell this guy was, so of course I googled him , wikipedia him and all the other stalker accouterments that follow. What I discovered was the worlds best film maker. His most notable film, El Topo is the most poignant film I've ever seen in my young life. El Topo which is Spanish for the mole is a story about self-discovery. The film consists of two parts the first half of the movie shows El Topo travelling through the dessert with his naked son shooting everything in sight. Long story short he eventually finds himself in a cave filled with morbidly disfigured people, who he has the help. The movie is rife with religious allegory, including the last scene when he burns himself at the sight of his"family" being killed. Very reminiscent of Buddhist monks during Vietnam. When I think about how socially, emotionally, and spiritually inspiring this movie is I wonder why it is that I have never heard of it before? Maybe because of fucked up, antiquated mpaa ratings. Until recently this movie could only be seen in legendary midnight screenings, or cheap bootlegs. Which is a shame because in my opinion this movie should be on every ones must see list.

FIRST!!!!!

Welcome to the world of three immigrant Jamaican teenagers. We basically started this blog as a way to share our point of view on the shit that takes places in this crazy world we live in. You can expect social commentary, endless often time nonsensical rants and raves. Let me be the first to introduce you to the gang. First theirs Yolene, the brains of the operation Yulan, her younger albeit wiser sister. Then there is me Chad.....
We have really big plans for this blog, not to become the next Chris Crocker, or even worse Perez Hilton.Fuck that shit were just looking for an outlet so that we can vent our opinions and thoughts and to call out people in powers of authority on then the fucked up things they tend to do. Were all still teenagers trying to find our little niche in this world so bear with us when we fuck up and allow us to grow. Enough with the sentimental bullshit lets get down to what you can come to expect from the bumbofuck times. EVERYTHING!!!!!!! In our regular conversations we touch on everything so we probably will in this blog too, so check back often and see what we can pull out of our asses. PEACE BITCHES!!!!!!!!!
